I woke up at 3am and couldn't get back to sleep, so it felt perfect to find this in my "to-read" folder. Heavenly and a reminder to count my blessings... Jxx
Such a beautiful letter, thanks for drawing us into your midnight moments :) I am very nostalgic about the winter nights when my husband and I wake up at 3ish to get the wood stove going. It’s nothing like waking up in the middle of the night in a suburban home. It’s just peaceful and reflective, and feels more like an opportunity than an inconvenience :) Did you say you moved from the West Coast? We lived in Bellingham Wa before finding our home here - I often laugh about moving from one coast to the other - enjoying the same view, just facing the other direction 😂
oh amie, i love this! brings me back to a sunny day in 2003, when evan waltzed off the school book and pressed a page, torn from their notebook, into my hand reading "I loved this day." it's framed next to my bed.
also, my MY favorite leftover love is turkey nachos!!!
Echoing what others have said, so grateful for you reviving Cook & Tell and sharing with us so selflessly. And I absolutely adore that list from you age 6.
I'm so grateful for you Amie! Thank you for showing up here and in my mailbox. :) I can't wait to make the sweet potato and cranberry casserole. You are gold. Sending you hugs and love.
It feels like your mother’s poetic words travels across time straight to our hearts, Amie, and then you amplify them seamlessly with your own. I loved every part of this, including the casserole at the end. I’m thankful for Cook & Tell--and you!🤗

A beautiful post, Amie - and your framed list is utterly adorable! Saving this post....! 😘

Opportunity v. Inconvenience, what a beautiful way to frame it, Sydney! I’ve lived with on both, but always feel best on the “right” coast.
THAT GRATITUDE LIST! So sweet! So wholesome! 🧡
Love the grateful list! That’s a treasure.
The 2d violin part of The Great Maldeau is a nightmare to play! You would never know to listen to it what is going on in the orchestra!
I can hear you playing right now!

What a memory to treasure!
PS: thanks for the recipe.
The casserole sounds perfect for leftovers. I remember the days of thinking about the cost of "long distance" calls. Happy Thanksgiving, Amie!
I had to laugh at that. We were always so careful to call on weekends and evenings!

I’m so glad you’re part of this journey, Amy W!!!

I loved this! Your descriptions made me feel I was there. I can just see your mom tending fires and expressing gratitude. She's my soulmate!
Yep, Campbell's creamed soups were a home staple. I make my own now, but sometimes, don't ya miss that salt extravaganza! 😊
Ha! I’m glad it resonates, Lillian, with both sentiment and flavor.
Annie, your mother's essay is just beautiful. I wish I could have met her. Wishing you and yours a joy filled Thanksgiving.
Your sketch! And a beautiful piece, Amie.

Awww, Amie, thanks!
