So glad to see this recipe! Makes for such a better alternative to all the packaged stuff out there. Simple everyday ingredients.

So fascinating to me to read the railings against fake food going as far back as 1977!

I'm laughing so hard at this post! Thank you so much Amie for the laughs and great REAL recipes. I love granola and can't wait to make this one. My children call me the "health nut" because I too do not allow processed cereals or soda or...(I won't bore you with the list) HA! Thanks again!

Love this, Amie and I LOVE your Mom’s illustration! Don’t get me started on Tab, I was addicted to it in the 70’s and Tang was given props because the astronauts drank it!

Funny column and reaction! We also drank Tang and even ate Space Food Sticks (like disappointing vegan-esque Tootsie Rolls) mostly because they were associated with astronauts and my mother thought that was cool. 😆 and my version of Tab was Diet Dr Pepper.

I was just thinking about those space food sticks, which I must have snuck at some friend’s house! They were almost as bad as Carnation Instant Breakfast or Figurines. I could go on...

What a strong character your mom was--she comes alive in these pieces and in your endnotes about her, Amie. No artificial anything--except Tang, pop tarts and Tab! So rich! Don’t we all become addicted to what we’re denied?

I am living proof of that, Ruth!

P.S. I’m definitely making that granola when I get back home! Still curious about the name though. Probably a large stash of peanut butter granola fueled those all-night study sessions at HAH-vud!

That made me laugh. Totally agree about imitation chocolate chips. Your mom's illustration is adorable!

I can’t believe there’s even a market for fake chocolate chips! PS, I’m making your apple cider donuts this week 🍎

I should make a batch, too. I can't quite believe we are already into October.

TAB! In high school I used to drink that stuff out of the big family size jugs. I liked it flat. Couldn’t imagine drinking it now! Or Tang.

I mostly eat food that looks like food but I do love a good pop-tart now and then. And of course provel cheese. 😉
