I’m coming home with bags of fall apples and beans from our travels to New Mexico. Can’t wait to try those apple cookies and crockpot baked beans and applesauce (what a novel combo!). Thanks for another wonderful edition of Orts & Reports, Amie—and a hugely welcome distraction from spooky news!
I know I’ve already told you this, but I love your Secret Recipes cookbook with micro stories. So much conveyed in a few short lines. Artful storytelling!
Ok, Jessica's Apple Cookies are on my weekend baking to-do list, and the popcorn balls' bit is so appropriate for Halloween: my Jim and I grew up in the same neighborhood in small town Michigan and his mom would always make popcorn balls for trick or treating. It was the annual, dependable can't-wait-to-get-a-popcorn-ball treat that everyone in the neighborhood was excited about. I always ate mine the same night (as well as most of my haul). P.S. I smiled at the What Not to Cook notebook. I have a mental one of those.

Happy to be a diversion, Ruth!

You made my day (again), Domenica! So glad you are enjoying it. I hope your project is coming along well.
“Crocktober” is forevermore the way I will think of this month 🧡
We don’t need no stinkin’ instapots…
Ha!
How wonderful, Amie, that Sara who worked with your mom is now on board with you!
Oooo! I’ve got everything to make those cookies today and thanks for the October surprise, too, Amy.

That’s a nice memory! Thank you for sharing (and baking my stuff!)
