Love your Mom's summer musings and the rust and stains on the crock pot. It looks just like mine! We just closed out summer beach season in Michigan and will be heading back to the desert next week. Labor Day weekend is always so bittersweet.
Funny--I just made that tortilla soup, not in a crockpot but on my stove--so similar but with some leftover chicken from yesterday’s barbecue. Island summers real and borrowed sound idyllic. I love your mother’s lyrical writing--and yours.
It's great that you split the year between ocean and desert. That change of scenery must be invigorating.
I’m not the best at sitting still ☺️

My crock pot is definitely a vintage appliance. I’m afraid if I replace it, I’ll lose the magic it’s made all these years.
See you in spin class!
Soup sounds yummy; I need to dig out my crock pot.
One month away from cider pot roast.
Ha! You nailed it!
Love this.
Just not stew season yet but while reading this, I was there.
Same. We have not run out of summer yet!

Thanks so much for reading, Ruth. Let me know how it comes out!
