"In return, she brought me dried cranberry bits and spicy pecans from Trader Joe’s (the nearest Joe’s from here is in Boston), perfect for salads, and Peet’s coffee." Ahhh! Bostony things! (I lived there for 24 years, Peets was my mother-in-laws fav.) The first time I had granola was in 1977 when I was in Europe for six weeks for my 20th birthday. I camped with some gal pals and we shopped at local grocery stores for our food. I found Alpine Muesli (I think that was its name) in a store and thought it was fantastic. Just love reading these wonderful posts! Thank you for sharing your mom's and your life with us.
I'm here in Boston and take those trader joe's for granted...here I am longing for Norimoto Bakery, Zao Ze condiments, and Mr. Tuna...I'll meet you half way
These columns are treasures. For many years my dad used to have Familia every morning for breakfast. I’ll have to make a batch when I’m back stateside!
I always have homemade museli on hand. Your recipe sounds scrumptious. This time of year I get teary near the greeting card aisle, missing my mom even more than usual.

Thank YOU for sharing, Mary. It’s amazing how food unites us through memory and stories.

Oh, my. 💚💚💚
I love that she shared the recipes and cooking with you and you carry it on. Museli is the best, but homemade is the only way I enjoy it.
