So cute, Amie! Anything referencing politics these days rarely makes me chuckle, but this throwback was perfectly delightful! "I’m happy if I make you comfortable with your leftovers." And what a great take on smores, they sound perfect! Hope you're having a bit of springtime coming your way - our ground is just beginning to thaw (in that undeniably springtime-in-Maine way where you're walking in the yard and the frost heave suddenly starts giving way).
It definitely feels Spring-y; here in the desert, the wildflowers are just starting to bloom. Did you know we have lupine, too? It’s much tinier and less vibrant than what grows in my Maine backyard but nonetheless, a little piece of home.
🤣 Be happy! Isn't that fascinating? I was really surprised to learn how many different lupines there are. I grew up in Texas, where Bluebonnets are the state flower, and I thought they were just a Texas thing. I moved to Colorado and discovered these much smaller, lavender lupines in the mountains, probably more similar to your desert variety. Then I got to Maine, and they're giant, basically bushes! Which was also funny because Texans are always claiming that everything's bigger in Texas 🤣
As I search for a dinner recipe I pop over here to see what you have shared and find the perfect dessert. Thank you, I will watch the state of the union address in a few days, I will find an easy dinner to make with low carbs- as my dr reminds me I need to do more often.
Much more often. Dessert can be shared with friends, I won’t count calories or carbs.
Life is short. We must enjoy each day as it goes so quickly.
Oh, this is lovely! Food 'politics' for the heart and soul, Amie - absolutely wonderful!
This line absolutely cracked me up: "Who can forget the recipe for Macaroni and Cheese with the cheese left out?" Heck, I've left the cheese out of macaroni and cheese ITSELF in my time....! 😉
What a Ray of sunshine to arrive in my e-mail on this dreary day. I must make these brownies for my great grandsons. I love the nostalgia of having the moments with your mother…oh, how I love everything she put her hand and mind to😘. You are her most wonderful legacy💕. Thank you for perpetuating the happiness.
“Who can forget the recipe for Macaroni and Cheese with the cheese left out?” I have a recipe for apple cake from my mom without any apples. “Cook & Tell” is so very relatable, timely and timeless—like S’mores. And just as delicious!
I’m tasking some of my unpaid interns (my kids) to make this s’mores recipe for the Weirdo Poetry all-hands meeting this coming week. I’ll report back, hopefully with pictures!
Amie - I love this post. The story is charming and funny and perfect. Going to make the s'mores for a potluck next week. Wish me luck with the recipe:).

My pledge to you: I’m happy if I make you laugh!

In my kitchen, dessert often *is* the dinner😂 thanks for reading!

Dear Rebecca, I’m lost! (in a sea of recipes)
🤣
This is the best State of the Union I’ve heard!! It totally brought a smile and a LOL moment!
I’m here for the LOLs, Patty!
If only the actual State of the Union address could be as amusing. Thanks for such a fun read!
…and this short 🥹

Carol! This is the ultimate compliment. I am so glad you enjoy the “new” newsletter— seems like we’re both keeping the Cook & Tell legacy alive.
(Feel free to send photos of your great-grandkids and the s’mores!)
I don’t get to see them often, but will make an effort to make those , (I’m going to call them “darling” brownies) and remember to send you a pic.

It’s been a hoot reliving and sharing these relatable moments!
It’s a hoot reading them too, Amie! Have you thought of compiling them in a book one day?
We have much to discuss when I see you!
Can’t wait!🥰

Those squares! ❤️🥲
0mg, Amie! This was just great! Loved the essay and the recipe. Can not wait to bake the brownies!!!
I’ve never enjoyed a State of the Union more, Amie! 😂👏👏👏
